Commissioned to improve national health and welfare by reducing the incidence and mortality of cancer, the NCC hopes that this event will be able to provide cancer researchers, policy makers and medical professionals in Korea with a precious opportunity to learn a lot from each other through the sharing of their knowledge and creative ideas.

PROGRAMME

This International Workshop on cancer control as part of non-communicable disease control will be an intensive one-week course.

The Seminars are designed to provide training to managers of national programmes for NCD prevention.

The Workshop aims to provide support to countries by strengthening opportunities for training and capacity-building with regard to public health aspects of the major NCDs (cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes) including Cancer. The three primary areas that the Seminars will support are public health training, public health workforce development and networking.

The Seminar presentations and course materials will be developed in collaboration with professionals from the Supercourse, and will be freely available to all on the Internet as a full set of Supercourse lectures.

Workshop participants: a group of 20-25 participants from countries in Asia. Two participants from each country are recommended: one should be a government officer responsible for strategic planning and from the other an academic counterpart.

 

AUDIENCE

National health authorities and the WHO regional networks for noncommunicable disease prevention and control can be tapped for both expertise and for assistance in recruiting participants from all over the world. In addition, priority for participation in the Seminar and the network will go to professionals who are involved in noncommunicable disease epidemiology and prevention in Ministries of Health and national public health institutions.

ACCOMMODATION AND VISA

The course will take place at NCC. Some block reservations have been made in a short-term residence, the Residencenu, which is near NCC (15 min walking distance; 5 min by taxi). Participants are responsible for obtaining a visa for Korea. The NCC will provide them with an invitation letter if required.

 

LANGUAGE

The working language of the course will be English, and participants will be expected to have sufficient knowledge of spoken and written English to participate actively in discussions.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 20 August 2010

Candidates will be informed of the outcome of their applications no later than 5 September 2010. The WHO Collaborating Centre (National Cancer Center, Korea) will cover the costs of participation, accommodation and meals for participants from low and middle income countries. The participation from high income countries is also encouraged, even if it will expected to find their own financial support for travel and accommodation.
